Happy Tuesday, my beautiful friends!
I'm pretty sure most of you are familiar with the term "nude" shoe, right? If not, it's basically a term for a shoe that's similar or an exact match to your skin color. Throughout the years, you may have noticed that there was a particular shade(s) of shoes that was categorized as nude, the colors found in both the first and second sets you see below.
However, that's not a fair or accurate representation of what's to be classified as a nude shoe because we all come in all sorts of delicious colors (haha) and so we should all be fairly represented! I believe brands have, with the time, realized this and we're starting to see the term associated with just those particular shades subside. Christian Louboutin understood this concept and expanded his "nude collection" to represent a more diverse spectrum earlier this year! Great job Mr. Louboutin; if you need someone to test out any shades for upcoming collections, you know how to reach me!
With that, I've compiled a few of my personal favorite shoes in a selection of various styles for each category below! This is not to say that only those who fall into the categories are the only ones who can or should wear them, absolutely not!
You can and should wear any color shoe you want!
This is just to serve as a guide for those of you who have been on the hunt for the perfect nude for your skin color. I personally think every woman should own at least one pair because they can do wonders for the legs, making them appear longer and slimmer, espcially if you're petite and want to experiment with styles that can otherwise cut off some inches (boots, lace ups, and t-straps). Now, what woman doesn't like the sound of that?!
Also, you may be wondering why for the darker skin category I shared navy shoes. If you are dark skinned, then you can certainly opt for dark brown shoes. With my experience in working retail, however, I've discovered that women who have notably darker skin, like Lupita Nyong'o, can also get away with wearing navy as their nude, since the skin can have a (gorgeous!) bluish undertone, where a dark brown can have a bit of a sharp contrast and not blend as seamlessly, this will vary depending on how dark the skin is. This is also my observation from styling, not a fashion rule (who really follows those these days anyway!?).
As a side note, if you're looking for navy shoes in general, regardless of your skin tone or color, keep in mind that the selections are larger and sell out quickly as we approach fall, so now's the time to get them!
