Anyway, an all black outfit is one that's classic and looks good on everyone, regardless of body shape, size, or skin color. There are a number of ways you can style a black monochrome outfit to prevent things from appearing boring. I personally chose to omit the use of texture or a belt because I wanted to create the illusion of a long lean and clean look, but mixing textures is such a great way to add interest and of course comfort during the winter months. I did do some layering; I'm wearing a black tank underneath the turtleneck for some added warmth.
When it comes to winter fashion there are a few things that come to mind, aside from specific colors there are textures. Textures play a huge roll in keeping warm and can also be rather stylish, too. Who knew that when we pay more mind, winter fashion can be quite interesting and anything but dull! I particularly like sweaters and cardigans that have a fuzzy texture because they're often incredibly cozy and enhance that wintertime feel in appearance. When it come stop styling them one thing you really must consider are the other elements in the look. I wouldn't suggest combining your textured piece with more than one other piece in your outfit or else you risk looking like a teddy bear, haha. Pieces that have more structure pair great with this fabric, such as leather leggings/coated jeans, suede, or your classic denim.
I hope you all had a great weekend! I was able to get some much needed cleaning done. Very exciting, I know! Haha. It's been so incredibly cold here in Connecticut with record lows, and we had a snow storm this past Thursday and in the midst of all this cold, our furnace gave out the day before the storm as mentioned in this post. We were supposed to get it fixed on Friday, but due to the storm, it's been postponed until today. The anxiety of not having working heat with a baby with record low temperatures and a snow storm gave me enough anxiety, but thankfully we've made it through and Aviah has been kept warm.
As I'm typing this, we're bracing ourselves for a supposedly major snowstorm set to hit the northeast and our furnace blew conveniently. Luckily we have a fire place, send all the positive (and cozy) vibes our way.
Anyway, you all know how much I love my outerwear. From fur coats to leather jackets and vest, I'm all for them. Why? They're not only practically in keeping you warm, but can make an entire outfit. In fact, during the winter, it can be an entire outfit, since we're so bundled up that not many get to witness the great amount of (stylish) effort we've put into what's underneath. That said, when there's an outerwear trend, my ears and eyes perk up. This winter, it's all about the puffer coat. It's a bit nostalgic for me having grown up in the '90s and owning so many different colors and styles. I'm glad they've made a comeback and though some of the colors and finishes (hello, metallic!) are very reminiscent, there are some more contemporary styles that have been added, such as velvet and the teddy fabrics, can you say ultra cozy!?
If there's one styling technique I love to turn to when I want to create an outfit that's unique and interesting it's juxtaposing. Though as I've mentioned in Monday's post, my style is evolving, but I still enjoy experimenting with various styles and vibes and that I don't think will ever change. It's reflective of my personality; I'm one that enjoys a little bit of everything.
I hope 2018 has been treating you well so far! In case you missed it, yesterday I shared an open letter summing up my thoughts on 2017 and what my aspirations are for the new year in case you're interested in reading :)
Though the holiday season is officially over, I'm sure there are a few people that you've forgot to include in your holiday shopping or were given gifts by people you didn't expect and felt bad that you didn't get them anything in return. I know that's happen to me a few times and after spending so much during the holidays, sometimes our wallets don't necessarily want to open so widely for additional gifts. That's when knowing where to shop really comes to play. JcPenney has been a store that I've grown up shopping at. I've shopped there a number of times for Aviah, since they carry our favorite baby clothes brand, Carter's.
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are ready to embrace this new year with a fresh perspective. 2017 was a year of self discovery and change for me, right up until the very last day of the year yesterday. I had the absolute joy and privilege of becoming a mother for the first time to my sweet baby girl, Aviah Liora. Never would I have imagined how much being a mom would have changed me in more ways than one. It's been a humbling experience thus far and it's revealed the strength and weaknesses in myself, both of which I've had to acknowledge for self improvement. It's been incredibly challenging, yet joyful and rewarding; I wouldn't change or trade it for anything in the world. As it pertains to fashion, with becoming a new mom, I've also noticed my style has continued to evolve. I've went from a more playful and energetic taste to that which a bit more clean, chic, and practical. Though I will never turn my back on the bold and the beautiful, I've noticed that my approach in styling the two are much more different now and I like it.
