Happy Hump Day, lovely friends!

How is your week going so far? It's been rather cold around here, but I haven't allowed the colder temps to dampen my enthusiasm for wearing color! You all know how much I love wearing colorful pieces and this certainly doesn't change come winter; I just feel that they help to combat negative feelings or emotions that the gloomy days can  cause.

When Eddie and I were taking these photos, I made him laugh when I said that I felt very Russian (I actually said it with a Russian accent :) in this outfit. Seriously, though, I did! My mom lives in a section of Brooklyn that's predominately Russian and I'm telling you, these ladies never cease to inspire me, especially during the winter! It will be below zero and you will see these fabulous fashionistas walking around in their long fur coats, hats and colorful lips and gloves. This leads me to say that many New Yorkers lend themselves to a lot of black, at least that's what NY style is often described as. This is partially true, if we're talking some areas of Manhattan. When it comes to the rest of the boroughs of New York, I think it's a different story. There's so many ethnic pockets and cultures everywhere and you can't help but pull inspiration from everything you see; like I do with my stylish Russian Brooklynites!

In my two previous posts (here & here), I mentioned how belted coats are very figure flattering and in one of those posts, I suggested you add an oversized waist belt if the coat you have doesn't come with one and you want to create a more tapered effect. While most puffer coats, like this one, come with waist belts, if they don't, you can certainly add one and it would create this effect you see here, a more cinched and defined waist. I think it's important to avoid getting lost in a coat, specifically with puffer styles, as they are so bulky and when worn over chunky pieces, they can make you appear a lot larger than you are. When it comes to cocoon or oversized styles, on the other hand, I think it can look rather stylish when the coat simply hangs effortlessly on the body.

I hope you found this post helpful, my dear friends and I thank you so much for stopping by; I look forward to chatting with you in the comment's section!
