Happy Monday, lovelies!

First, I want to take this time to express my sadness in regards to the multiple terrorist attacks that took place this past weekend in Paris, France. My mind cannot comprehend how such evil exists and how people think they hold the right to take another human being's life. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by these horrific events and with all of France, as they struggle to make sense of this occurrence, we all do.

Many of you know that I was raised in New York, the Bronx. I feel that growing up in such a multicultural environment is what contributed to my diverse or eclectic style. However, when I was younger, my style was very urban! I had Timberland boots in every color, as well as the latest Jordan and Huarache sneakers. It was a big deal as an urban teen to have the latest of those kicks; it was apart of the urban culture! Now, of course my style has changed immensely, but I do sometimes feel inspired to take to my urban roots with looks like these, from time to time. Does your environment influence your style?

As for this specific look, I simply adore this jumper and reach for it very frequently come fall and winter. I received it a couple of years ago at an event I attended and I just fell in love with the cozy feel of it and since it has wholes all throughout, it's breathable as well (I wear a tank underneath, since you can see through it). What I'm not too crazy about is the high-low style. I feel that with thicker pieces, like a jumper or sweater, the high-low can make your hips appear wider, since the thickness of the fabric tends fold over around the sides of the hips. Since I love the sweater so much, I don't let this hinder me. What I generally do is wear it with either a scarf, necklace, jacket or in this case a headband! Yes, a headband can definitely serve as an attention grabber, causing the eye to move up and down, as opposed to being stuck on the hip area. Isn't it amazing how just the simplest accessories can really make a difference in an outfit?! I also decided to wear coated jeans here, which has a slimming effect, since it's black. It still is a bit tricky, though, because of the sheen, it does reflect light (which can add visual weight). Styling it with a darker bottom also helps to slim the hips. So, if you're obsessing over that sweater you have in your wardrobe or one you've been eyeing, but have avoided it because of fear of making your hips appear larger, try some of the tips I mentioned!

I hope you found this post helpful and inspirational! Thank so much for stopping by, as always, and I hope you have an amazing start to your week, beautiful friends!
